Operation Airdrop: Relief for Victims of Hurricane Michael

Victims of storm damages resulting from Hurricane Michael will soon receive additional relief thanks to Operation Airdrop. This organization specializes in quickly gathering donations and distributing supplies to those in need following natural disasters. Volunteer pilots began flying into the Gainesville Regional Airport early this morning to assist with donation distribution.

Hurricane Michael was a catastrophic category four storm that made landfall on Wednesday and caused intense flooding and damage to cities along Florida's panhandle. Areas most affected by the storm include Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Panama City, and Destin.

Operation Airdrop's Volunteer Media Director Carolyn Rhinebarger says the organization is seeking donations of hygiene products, baby supplies and nonperishable food items to distribute to these areas. Trey Triffiley is a volunteer pilot that has volunteered his aviation services to Operation Airdrop's Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief efforts. His 1970s red plane can carry about 150lbs of supplies.

Pilots will continue to fly into the Gainesville Regional Airport through Saturday. Donations will be sorted and distributed throughout the weekend. Operation Airdrop is continuing to seek volunteers to help with the the donation and distribution process.
